Full title: Dossier: Ludwig van Beethoven in theatre. Preface (1st part) : Beethoven, lyrical drama (F-L Berthé) – Beethoven, drama in three acts (René Fauchois) – Beethoven, revue de l’Association Beethoven France No. 16, 2014
Abstract:
Because of its immense richness, the history of Ludwig van Beethoven was adapted numerous times, inspiring fictions, movies, TV series, novels, biographies, testimonies, theatre plays, drawings, paintings, scupltures… this inexhaustible source crossed the times. In number 12 of this journal, we could appreciate a very complete special dossier about Beethoven in movies. Several elements pushed me to explore Beethoven in theatre: the authors of the dossier about movies, of course, but also Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s monologue “Kiki van Beethoven” and Danièle Léon’s play “Beethoven between sky and earth”, both of which has been the object of an article in previous numbers of this journal. I spent numerous hours trying to locate out-of-print editions, with the help of some ABF passionates. After a few months we had enough content for this article to be written. Other parts will follow in future numbers of the journal.
