I was invited by the Toronto Chinese Orchestra to perform two songs in 2022, for a partnership between Community Music Schools of Toronto (CMST) and TCO. The orchestra welcomed CMST students for their concert. Two groups of students joined: string players led by the violinist Cassie Norton, and voice students which I led. This partnership was the result of an academic research conducted by Patty Chan, music director and concertmaster of TCO. The rehearsals were held online, and the concert was in person.
The first song, “Bright Moonlight,” has Cantonese lyrics and was arranged by Kenny Kwan.
The second song was composed for CMST by Hawksley Workman in 2014. Marjolaine Fournier arranged the song for TCO, for Chinese instruments and voice.
